[astro boy] is Ady Gordon. The project is called after something he read on a package of bubblegum. and as you know, astroboy is a japanese 70s cartoon too.The project started out as an extention of the shapeshifters legacy. like that band project, his solo stuff is experimental (even more so, in fact).

[astro boy]-tapes are recorded on an analogue 4-track, and this seems to be quite important to Ady. This solo stuff has now grown into several tapes, using a variety of keyboards, guitars, drum machines, tapes ( and other random articles (including a speak and spell, a recorder and an old commodore-64 running ancient music packages!). Add a variety of effects pedals to this mix and you have a hybrid of strangely mutated music, other-worldly soundscapes and ethereal, haunting melodies

As you can't do without them: ady is inspired by sonic youth (who isn't?), third eye foundation, my bloody valentine and sebadoh. Mind you, these inspirations show more about his ideas, rather than the type of music he plays. Tunes of old computer games were imporant for the astroboy sound too. The [astro boy] sound is all about manipulation. creating music you can get lost in and zone out to. creating music you can feel. music that teases and occasionally sexually harasses your virgin soul.

it's about experimentation and soundscaping, as well as occasionally taking -trendy- sounds and totally and utterly changing them into something different altogether. it's about exploring the possibilities of limited equiptment and found sound. it's about mellow ambient grooves and abrasive, noise. about heaven, hell and purgatory. challenging your ideas and blurring the edges. astro boy is the soundtrack to your daydreams
