Michael J Hex is known from noseflute fame. 'Insane' is one of the highlights on 'Hiss explosion'. Excellent kiwi-stuff. hard to describe. Postpop? Dronepop? I really don't know.

klick to visit the zent one homepage
Zent one is of course Oliver Driessens, the man from Lichen, Karate kit (see below), Geiger counter, Tractor, etc... But his best project up to here is Zent one. That is why he will record a tape for Morc records. 'Glass of genes' is the demo version from one of the mighty guitar-soundscapes. Think of Aerial M meests Low, but more drone-like.

taylor (brand abrasive sound structure) was one of Chicago's finest. And no, i'm not exaggerating. If they would have been on Touch & Go, they would be certainly one of the best acts there. '17 hours' proves my point. You would almost forget that Albini recorded their debut-album (available in a wonderful metal-case). sadly split up in april 2001... e-mail

klick to visit the circle brothers webpage
And than there is Circle brothers. What can I say? It's pure circle brothers-stuff: instrumental, slow, distorted... 'Sub-human' is taken from hist tape "Seesaw" 'A photographer's index' was unreleased up to now. Really one of his better songs, Circle brothers released a new tape on morc 'bitter dream' in the fall of 2000.

klick to visit the motorama webpage Also slow and distorted: Motorama But yet totally different. Think of Karp, Jesus Lizard and No Tomorrow Charlie. Jamming together in one room. So Canada really is more than The Tragically Hip, Ron Sexsmith and Neil Young. how could we resist Motorama?

klick to visit the karate kit webpage I mean, for a half a year ago, who thought that Karate kit was getting back toghether? Oliver is in at least 10 other bands. And the other half, well, he is Circle brothers. Maybe they will once record another tape for Morc. And that will probably result in more noises like 'Ship deconstruction' or 'Stringstabber'

klck to visit the richie cunningham webpage And than there is Richie Cunningham, the cream of british lo-fi. The sound just like the mountain goats. (and that's a compliment). Their last release was their part in the 'soup versus potatoes'  series, together with the already mentioned Pernath. Before that, they released piles of tapes on Kaw records.

klick to visit the cocker spaniels webpage The cocker Spaniels, a one-man band from Waco. this eighteen year old guy is as good as Jason Loewenstein, Robert Pollard and Ellioth Smith at their best, but all at the same time. 'Land of a thousand smiles' is the perfect illustration. You should have had his latest CD 'little white truths' at home already.

Elo vs. Saturn are best known for their concert at the dour festival in 1999. Mogwai cancelled that weekend, but they managed to fill up the gap.  Although they were not foreseen as a replacement act. this is the first thing they release. And this is enough to make the compilation a true collector's item. e-mail

Toss recorded their debut album back in 1998. It was released on [K-RAA-K]³ 'One bit' is a track, exclusive to this compilation. It is a more agressive drone then we're used to from toss (maybe due to Anto-on), but it has the same quality-level.

klick to visit the zod website Zod are two neighbourhood-terrorizing musicians. One Drumkit, one bass, and sometimes vocals and keyboards: that's all they need. Comparing them to godheadSilo would be just too easy. They are not that one-dimensional. Zod has a sort of minimal touch in their sound. And that's what makes it so great.
