Most of you remember Eric Gaffney as the co-founder of Sebadoh, the band that
turned out to be one of the most important acts of the 90's. Eric started the
band in 1989 with lou barlow. Eric signed for most of the electric songs from
the early area, which resulted in records as III, smash your head on the punkrock,
and bubble&scrape, which still is an all-time favorite here at the morc office.
in 1994, eric left the band. as various people said: "seconds before
the band got huge". The next five years passed without any new gaffney-output,
though he kept recording during that time. Since then, Eric has performed
as a solo artist around the Northeast usa, and nearly signed to Sub Pop, Domino
and Atlantic (but didn't) before forming Fields of Gaffney in 1998. In 1999, the
Atlanta-based label Old Gold released "Brilliant Concert Numbers", a collection
of solo recordings spanning a decade. Favorable reviews followed in Alternative
Press and Magnet, among others, and the record made a few top 20 lists on college
radio (including KAOS, Olympia and WMBR, Cambridge). In Winter 2000, Sub Pop released
a limited 7" featuring "Cold Weather" and "Twilight" in the prestigious singles
club on blue vinyl. In 2001, the group relocated from Western Massachusetts
to San Francisco. The current line-up includes Jessica Cowley (Run For Cover Lovers)
and Richard Marshall (The Slings, Carlos!, Alice Donut). The band performed regulary
in the san francisco area, and toured throughout the south of the us earlier this
year, during which the band did shows with jason loewenstein (also ex-sebadoh!)
mike watt, (smog) and daniel johnston. a new record "nature walk" was
released independently in march 2003. early 2004, morc released a split
7" of fields of gaffney and pernath.
both bands contribute two songs, those of fields of gaffney being ' wanna be with
you' and 'cold weather' - a great single that contributes to the legend that mr.

of Gaffney / Pernath: "split single" 7 " ep - released
february 2004 four new songs bringing the lofi-era back to life. Fields
of gaffney is the new band of Eric gaffney, co-founder of sebadoh. though his
releases over the past ten years have been very rare, he has lost nothing of his
songwriting talents: these songs can easily stand the comparison with the songs
he wrote for the critically acclaimed albums 'III' and 'bubble and scrape'. this
is his first single since his contribution to sub pop's singles club in 2000.
Two new Pernath-hits as well. songs about mad cows and saying goodbye in
spanish - for fans of swearing at motorists. a welcome follow-up to their split
