Not that it's already a long tradition, but still, we've had quite a few morc-bands and friends playing live at our hq.
the first shows were held at our place in hilversum, the netherlands, but since 2006, the 'venue' is now located at the tarwestraat 52, 9000 ghent.

if you'd like to attend a show, please e-mail us - we'll make sure there are enough drinks etc. normally, we can welcome up to 40 people per evening. we ask a donation of 5 euro's per person, all benefits go to the artists.

Mick Turner (aus/drag city)

for some reason, mick was planning to skip belgium on his short eurotour. glad we dont have to travel to paris to see this experimental guitar player, who will present some of his visual work as well. apart from being a brilliant solo artist, you might know mick's work in bands as dirty three, tren brothers and boxhead ensemble, or his collaborations with bonnie prince billy, nick cave and cat power.
reservation is highly recommended.

second time we'll have mariska for a solo houseshow at morc hq. only, last time was still in hilversum, and long before she put out her debut album 'sc' on morc. expect very, very minimal songs. we're very glad to have her around again, and yes, it's an 'exclusive' belgian show.

meg baird (us/drag city-wichita)

probably best known as part of the sextet Espers, Meg Baird was touring solo this time - though she did few songs with sharron. for us it was an introduction to her solo materia. heard a lot of great tracks which can be found on her first debut album 'dear companion', which we can highly recommend.

Sharron Kraus (uk/camera obscura-durtro jnana)

first time we got to see sharron live. we heard very traditional folksongs, on banjo, guitar, and yes, she used the organ as well. sharron was quite succesful in ignoring car alarms and shouting babies..

Jessica Bailiff (us/kranky-morc)

the second time we welcomed jessica bailiff at our place. this time, she was joined by annelies monseré on a.o. 'cello, guitar and hammond-organ. - this show was in the middle of a recording session, resulting in an untitled ep. so if you were there at the houseshow, you got a sort of sneak preview.

Filmjölk (be/heldernacht)

the first time we had an electronics-based act in our living room. ingrid jossieax is from brussels, and brings ambient-esque soundscapes with a very melodic touch. or popsongs with a soundscape-touch, if you prefer. her music made me think of what a laptop version of jessica bailiff might sound like. so quite a perfect combination.

Elephant Micah (us/time lag-bluesanct)

fulltime beersnob joe o'connell has been around quite a few times - but untill now, there hadn't been any time for a houseshow. there was now. think of an acoustic 'slowcore' act, but with an american touch and an optimistic vibe.

Vollmar (us/underwater tea party-bluesanct)

hard to believe, but its already the third time we had vollmar play at our house. so, euhm, what to say this time? he played solo, lots of new stuff, lots of old stuff - quite direct and a relatively brutal set. (yes, brutal and vollmar in one sentence - maybe i'm wrong)

The ordinary seaman (be/glasvocht-morc)

glasvocht labelhoncho filip gheysen is a friend of the house - hailing from ghent, and on the bill due to a bet he lost. and the fact that his loner drinking songs and harsh ballads make a perfect combination. one of the more unusual songwriters around.

Karina ESP (uk/evelyn-morc)

when we let chris gowers know that jb and drekka were doing a houseshow at our place, he booked his trainticket from london to belgium right away. although he broke his guitar on the trip, he brought a very intense set of guitarambient. personally, my favorite set we ever hosted at our place.

Jessica Bailiff (us/kranky-morc)

were we honoured! from the very beginning of morc, we were big fans of jessica's work - imagine a shoegaze 45 played at 33rpm or something, we got to know her personally when she toured europe with rivulets and drekka in 2002. and since we already had those two at morc hq...

Annelies Monseré (be/type-bluesanct-morc)

morc hq resident. again quite a different sound. annelies was joined by jessica bailiff on vocals and cello. no coincidence: annelies and jessica just did a tour in all of the founding eu-states. the set was so quiet you could hear the neighbours arguing throughout some songs.

Drekka (us/bluesanct-morc)

another semi-morc hq resident. michael anderson stayed at our place for a couple of weeks to record his upcoming new album (release date set before the switch of the decade). this houseshow came just on time to try out some of the new material.

Vollmar (us/underwater tea party-bluesanct)

the bluebus mountain tour (wiht vollmar, drekka and annelies monseré) stopped at morc hq in hilversum. so welcome back vollmar! this time, justin brought his brother nathan, which resulted in a semi-electronics oriented set of tiny songs, tiny melodies and big succes.

Drekka (us/bluesanct-morc)

drekka bringing a greatest hits set on guitar, even playing songs which had never been on his setlist before. possibly the loudest set we ever had at a houseshow. the show was partially documented on the hilv, nov 3 cdr - with one track by each of the artists playing this evening)

Soccer Committee (nl/morc)

we got to know mariska's music just shortly before this show, and thought her very stark compositions would fit well this particular evening. and she definately made quite and impression.

Annelies Monseré (be/type-bluesanct-morc)

welcome to the annelies monseré bigband: not a solo show this time, but also feat. the folks of drekka, vollmar and circle bros. so we had an annelies monseré quintet. and still it was incredibly quiet

Rivulets (us/important-chairkickers-bluesanct)

before embarking on a uk-tour with annelies monseré, nathan of rivulets was staying at our place at the same moment as justin vollmar. so the idea for a houseshow rose. of the many times i've seen rivulets live, this was one of the most sensational times. even though he played a mazzy star song.

--> rivulets website
Vollmar (us/underwater tea party-bluesanct)

first european tour of justin vollmar, and the first time at our place. i dont think he ever skipped us on a tour, so i guess he liked it too. built up and very indierockish, his most poppy set he did in our house

--> vollmar website
The Puddle Parade (de/morc-delirious riot-ugly dog)

it was only years later i learned this was just the second show of puddle parade. our favorite german in holland did a guitar-vocals only set. pretty representative of her early work, and full of really good melodies, lyrics and hooks.

--> puddle parade website
Annelies Monseré (be/type-bluesanct-morc)

just weeks before the official release of het debut album 'helder', annelies was up for her fifth solo set ever. since we had a piano in our livingroom, and she was about to play a keyboard for the next couple of shows, it was impossible to hold her back from doing the show. but were we proud after her set....

Circle Bros (be/morc-evelyn)

hard to imagine, but i decided to do a circle bros set, opening our houseshow tradition. i planned to keep it as short as 7 minutes, but got carried away, played a drekka song, so i've extended the set to 11 or so minutes. no effects were used, however, i did start singing.
