THURSDAY JULY 25th: PEFKIN / BURD ELLEN at MORC HQ

yes, it's true. for the first time in about a decade, we're hosting an event during the 'Gentse Feesten'. when the annual cultural bacchanal is halfway, we'll be extremely proud to bring you the european debut of both Pefkin and Burd Ellen. by far, this is the only event worth going to for the music as well.

Pefkin is the alter ego of Gayle Brogan, Ayrshire-based creator of slowly-unfolding, ritualistic psychedelic hymnals that draw heavily on the landscape and natural world. She uses layers of vocals, violin, analogue synth and zither. As the active listener put it in a review: 'Something akin to what it must have been like hearing Nico's 'Marble Index' when it was released; alien yet curiously familiar, beautiful yet stark, hypnotic yet troubling. '

Honestly, we've been following Gayle's output for years - she debuted as pefkin in the early 2000's, but even before that she was already a favorite here, thanks to her work with the majestically strange popduo Electroscope, who's still acoassionally active. anyway: about time she's doing a few shows on the continent. her first one ever being here at morc hq.

Gayle is also involved in Burd Ellen, which is the project of Debbie Armour, who sometimes plays solo or as a trio under this name too. she focusses on mainly scottish traditonals, and brings a very stripped down version of them, mainly built up with vocals and harmonium. As Alex Neilson put it: 'sonically adventurous, with an emotional range and a raw inventiveness which is all too rare in contemporary folk circles.'

so, you'd like to come over? of course. please fill out the form below. we'd ask a contribution of 5 euro. drinks available on the spot at very reasonable prices - all profits directly to pefkin/burd ellen.
doors open at 20.00, the event starts around 20.30, shows will be over around 23.00 the latest.
place to be: Morc hq, Tolhuislaan, Gent - right outside the 'gentse feesten' zone, approx 800 meters from the Vlasmarkt.  so it's the perfect place to start the evening. We'll send you the exact adress when we get your reservation in.

also: in case you'd like to recieve updates about this event via facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/2416846325044203/ - however: do place a reservation as well though!

see you there,

Wim

PREVIOUS HOUSESHOWS AT MORC HQ

In the past decade, we've had quite a few morc-bands and friends playing live at our hq.
the first shows were held at our place in hilversum, the netherlands, then at the previous morc hq in gent, but since 2012, the 'venue' is now located at the tolhuislaan, 9000 ghent.

OTHER SHOWS

we occasionally set up show in other venues in ghent, mainly for bands that are affiliated with the label, but that wouldn't necessarily work well for a househow. some posters and/or flyers:
