Episode 5, the perfect moment for a sort of mini-anniversary, no? so, we're celebrating by only playing other projects by morc-artists: collaborations, sideprojects, old bands... pretty eclectic! so if you thought the people from eg boduf songs, karina esp, drekka or bingo trappers only had one project: think again. and listen. also: exclusive recordings by joe speedboat and the valentines!

you know you can still get to know great music via the library, no? in this episode, you'll hear tracks from long out of print releases, by Lal Waterson and Mary Tillema Smedema (picture left), that are fortunately still to be found here at 'De Krook' in gent. but really: the Lal Waterson album needs a repress, and Smedesma can still be heard via the the archive of the university of wisconsin. go and explore!
also: newer releases by Facit, Heta Bilaletdin and Lori Goldston, and recent represses of releases by Brannten Schnüre or Sosena Gebre Eyesus. the 'exclusive' of the month is a loud and gritty recording by the beautiful band, a shortlived 'supergroup' feat ao members of ROT, Ignatz, Sunburned hand of the man and Opéra Mort.

Outhouse Mix: morctapes (nov 2021)
the kind people at Outhouse invited us to make a mix for them, - which was a perfect occasion to do something a bit more eclectic than what we normally play in our radioshows, i noticed: next to tracks from morc-releases by Pefkin , The Iditarod, Soccer Committee and Wouter Van Veldhoven , you'll also hear probably less expected favorites from here at morc hq, ranging from Country Teasers to Dark Day. this is a mix, not a radioshow, so: no banter here. and also: it was kind of an introduction to morc as well, so more morc-releases than usual. you don't mind, do you? it's all good!
Also: i've been on a Townes van zandt-trip lately, being particulary obsessed with different versions of the song 'Rake'. so here, you'll hear an early version from 1969, blending into a very late version from 1991. and i still can't tell what's best.

mostly songoriented material this time - most of it warm and analogue, like Crescent, electroscope, Gnac and Accident de Travail. there's an uptempo 'rock'-part too, with favorites like Black Abba and The Brigands (1966, oldest song from this episode). the morc exclusive is a banger: a liverehearsal recording by soccer Committee.

Morc FM episode 2 - thursday sept 23rd 2021

mostly slow 'songs' with minimal arrangements this time. more than half of the songs are instrumental, it seems. the oldest recording goes back to the 1920's (Alexis Zoumbas!) and the most recent ones are Alasdair Roberts' collab with Volvur and Bendik Giske reworking a Catherina Barbieri composition. most other tracks are from the past few years, but we often are a bit behind doing new discoveries.
the exclusive track is by Drekka - a very rare live rendition of We who are not lonely, performed in Namur, Belgium in 2009, on the occasion of the release of the 2CD collected works vol 1. The very oldest of those collected works just turned 25. happy birthday Drekka!

first edition of the radioshow, and we chose a rather wide spectrum of sounds we've recently been listening to at morc hq: from folk to minimal songwriting, subtle electronics and loud drones. it's all there. you'll hear a few morc artists (soccer Committee, The iditarod) new projects by longtime favorites (Distels, Goldscammer, Optic sink), new discoveries (Troth, Lisa Lerkenfeldt) and some overlooked gems (Kant, Bebe Fang)
also: we're trying to let you hear some rare tracks or live recordings on the show. in this episode, you'll hear The iditarod perform 'The unfortunate lass' live at VPRO studio in 2002. as far as i'm aware, this version hasen't been released and remained mostly unheared for approximately two decades. it's a treat. fun fact: Distels, the duo of Annelies Monseré and Edgar Wappenhalter that you'll hear elsewhere in the program also play the same traditional while performing live.
